HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Qatar offers a truly dynamic experience, where a breath-taking, futuristic skyline dramatically rises from the desert sands; a powerful symbol of its soaring ambitions.

Beyond the striking innovative skyscrapers that illuminate the night, a wealth of experiences awaits. Imagine the thrill of desert adventures under the warm Arabian sun, or the wonder of encountering whale sharks, dolphins, and even the gentle dugongs in the Gulf's waters. And for those who appreciate retail therapy, the world-class shopping within Qatar's modern malls is simply unparalleled.

But there's so much more to discover. Immerse yourself in a rich cultural tapestry by exploring Qatar's fascinating museums and the vibrant traditional souqs that offer a charming contrast to the contemporary cityscape.

And for the culinary enthusiast? Doha's evolving gastronomic scene, now recognised by the prestigious MICHELIN GUIDE, promises exquisite flavours and unforgettable dining journeys that beautifully blend tradition and innovation. Qatar is a destination that truly surprises and delights.

Make the most of your first visit with these essential travel tips.

  • Weather: Qatar basks in year-round warmth with a low-rainfall, subtropical climate that becomes humid over the summer months. For the most comfortable experience, aim to visit between November and April. During these winter months, you'll be greeted with beautifully mild and sunny days, with temperatures averaging a pleasant 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).

  • Weekdays and Weekends: Qatar's work week typically runs from Sunday to Thursday, making Friday and Saturday the weekend. You'll find that many businesses are still open on Friday afternoons, and some even operate on Saturdays; however, timings will vary during the holy month of Ramadan.

  • Transportation Methods: You've got a fantastic range of options, from the sleek and efficient Doha Metro and the modern Lusail Tram connecting key areas, to the reliable Karwa public buses and taxis. Ride-hailing apps like Uber are also readily available.

  • Payment Methods: The local currency is the Qatari Riyal (QAR), and you'll find that major credit and debit cards are widely accepted. Digital wallets are also popular here. While cards are convenient, having some Qatari Riyals on hand is always a good idea, especially for exploring traditional souqs.

  • Alcohol Consumption: Alcohol is available at licensed venues within hotels, clubs, and select restaurants. Just a friendly reminder that the legal drinking age is 21, and it's important to be aware that alcoholic beverages must only be consumed within the premises on which they were purchased. During the holy month of Ramadan, you'll notice that regulations around alcohol service are more restricted out of respect for this significant time.
Note: You may need your passport to enter bars, pubs, and clubs in Qatar.

  • Attire: Qatar generally has a relaxed attitude. However, as a sign of respect for the local culture, it's a good idea to avoid overly revealing clothing in public spaces. Covering your shoulders and knees in religious, cultural, or traditional settings is generally recommended.
